Mental Health Services
Gateway Children’s Advocacy Center is committed to providing a safe place for children to begin the healing process after they have experienced or witnessed abuse. Our clinicians provide assessments, crisis counseling, and individual evidence-based trauma informed therapy to children and their family. The services provided at GCAC are available at no cost to every child and their non-offending caregiver.

The focus of treatment is the child and the issues that emerge surrounding abuse that was experienced or witnessed. These include but are not limited to:
-
Changes in sleep patterns, nightmares and bed wetting.
-
Changes in eating patterns, eating too much or too little.
-
Changes in behavior (Acting out, withdrawn, isolating).
-
Changes in emotions (anger, anxiety, fear, low self-esteem).
These symptoms require treatment so the abused child can move beyond the trauma of abuse and begin healing. Some children may not display any symptoms at first. However, it is important to provide therapy for them to be better educated on trauma. The earlier a child receives services the better it is for the child and family.
